There are some key features that need to be considered when designing a chair for a computer system. The photo below shows these features.

- Seat Adjustment
- Backrest Adjustment
- Armrest Adjustment
Seat Adjustment: The seat height adjustment represents exactly what you think it does. It is the ability to adjust the height of the seat so that the user can customize it to fit their body. A standard chair usually allows an adjustment between 380 mm and 530 mm from the floor. Seats can also adjust by tilting the base of the chair. The seat normally with tilt from -4 degrees to 10 degrees. Seat tilt depends on user preference.
Backrest Adjustment: The backrest adjustment should be able to adjust both vertically and horizontally for maximum comfort. It is important that the user has proper lumbar support especially if the user is at the computer for prolonged periods of time. The correct spine position for lumbar support is shown below.

The backrest can also be tilted. Backrests normally tilt in a range of -10 degrees to 10 degrees from the vertical. Most users prefer their chair to have a slight negative tilt to allow reclining.
Armrest Adjustment: Armrests should be high enough to support the users arms yet low enough so that the chair can fit under a desk. Because of this, the armrests need to be able to adapt accordingly to the user’s needs. Most armrests adjust vertically, although some chairs contain the capability to tilt armrests as well.
Seat Material: The material of the chair is based on user preference. It should be breathable so that the user does not get hot while sitting for long periods of time. The material should also be durable so that the chair can be used for many years.
